DM Codes

The system uses a variety of sensors to detect objects and perform its tasks. One of the primary parts of the system is the identification of components when they are moved around and manipulated.

Healthy DM codes can tolerate up to 30% “damage” before being unable to be read which makes them a good, fault-tolerant choice for identifying components and vehicles in an industrial facility.

When DM codes are damaged, they should be replaced (see section 5.8.4.2) when possible to continue operating the system without data loss. Generally, a single code being lost in the system on a device will not result in data loss, however multiple codes being lost at once on the same component can require service intervention to rebuild data. Cradle DM Code

Usage

Cradle DM codes are used to identify the type of cradle and extraction method used to get the battery out of the cradle. Think of it as an extraction “recipe.”

Position

The DM code should be affixed to the cradle (or truck) on the left side of the battery opening approximately centered on the pin plate of the seated battery. Vertical alignment should be +/- 2” if possible.

Some contrast is helpful between the DM code and the vehicle. A white DM code label on a cream-colored vehicle can sometimes benefit from black tape surrounding the DM code.

Size

DM Codes should fit on a 3” x 3” square and should be black printing on a white background with a matte finish if possible.

The ideal DM code size is 2.5” - 2.75” square with no more than 14x14 cells in size.

Data / Format

Any DM code containing two commas will be classified as a cradle DM code. Placing a user-defined DM code with two commas in the camera’s field of view may result in the inability to reload a battery.

Position

The battery DM code is located above the pin plate assembly on the battery.

Size

DM Codes should fit on a 3” x 3” square and should be black printing on a white background with a matte finish if possible.

The ideal DM code size is 2.5” - 2.75” square and should contain the entire battery serial number.

Data / Format

Any DM code exactly 24 characters in length will be classified as a battery DM code.

Customer-Specific Code

Usage

Position

The Customer DM code should be located on the vehicle and visible on the Base of Arm camera when a reload is taking place. Typically, that is anywhere within 2 feet of the battery opening but can be cut off if placing it high on the vehicle.

Size

Codes should be at least 2.5”x2.5” (typically 3”x3”) and 14x14 cells in size.

Data / Format

Codes should be formatted as 14x14 in size so they can be read by the camera during a reload.

Encoding is typically ASCII, but other encoding can be used to get an extra character or two if needed.

Customer DM codes must not contain exactly two commas nor be exactly 24 characters in length. 5.8.3.5 FAQ What if I use two of the same codes on different vehicles? In this case, the vehicles will both report on the data system as the same vehicle and data will be faulty. If this happens, place a unique DM code on each vehicle and perform another reload.

What if I cover one of the other codes with mine?

When a Customer DM code is changed to another code, the telemetry system assumes the cradle has been moved to a new vehicle. The system will initialize a new vehicle in the database and record data into that new location.

What if I put my customer code on a battery or cradle?

That can cause unpredictable results if the new vehicle also has a Customer DM code. Tw
